Construction workers injured after collapse

by Administrator 27. January 2012 07:53

At least 14 people were injured early this morning when part of the floor of the construction site gave way and caused the workers to fall to the first floor.

The workers were pouring concrete when a metal beam fell, causing the floor to collapse. 14 were taken to the hospital with minor to serious injuries. Four have already been released and two more are expected to go home later today. Others will stay over night for observation.

Construction work has been delayed while OSHA is investigating the cause of the accident. In December, part of parking garage on the site, also being constructed by the same developer, collapsed. No one was hurt.

The man was moving materials around in a mill building that was being redeveloped when the accident occurred. The worker was able to get up and walk around soon after the fall but was experiencing some pain. He was taken to a nearby hospital and was released later that day.

OSHA is scheduled to visit the mill building this week to investigate the accident and to determine whether or not the fall could have been avoided.

Construction accident injuries eighteen

by Administrator 5. October 2011 07:48

A construction accident in Harlem late last week has resulted in eighteen people injured. It all happened when bricks began to fall out of a building that was set to be demolished. Construction workers on a scaffold suddenly fell when the scaffold gave way and landed on a New York city bus.

Eight of the injured were inside the bus. Several people were trapped under the scaffolding, bricks, and rocks and were rescued by firefighters. Investigators are currently searching for what caused the scaffold to fall. When the building was inspected early last month, all the required permits were issued and no site violations were found.

OSHA and the city's Department of Buildings will conduct a full investigation of the accident.
