South Carolina workers compensation rates to go down

by Administrator 15. June 2010 01:56

South Carolina insurance regulators have approved a new filing for workers' compensation that will drop rates by 9.8 percent. The new rates will be available to use in 30 days.

This is the second year that a decrease has been approved. There has been several reasons for the trend including increased employer safety programs, decrease in the claim frequency, and decrease in the severity of the claim.

Approximately 42 percent of workers compensation fees are medical services. A recent change in hospital fees is the reason for this. Regulators will be watching the reforms but said that the full impact will  not be seen until later years.

Shoney's Restaurant Sued By Former Employee for Workplace Injury

by Administrator 19. February 2010 06:08

A Charleston woman has filed a lawsuit against the Shoney's restaurant she had worked at since 1985. The woman's lawsuit alleges that she was treated unfairly following a slip-and-fall accident in the workplace that left her with injuries to her right knee. The woman claims that she was not allowed to return to her original position at the restaurant and was instead offered lower-paying jobs or positions much further away from her home and the original location. The woman is seeking compensation for discriminatory action and retaliation, as well as punitive damages against the restaurant.
