BMW worker severs arm in accident

A BMW facility in Spartanburg County was the site of a workplace injury where a worker lost his arm.

The worker's arm was severed after hitting a door while driving a forklift at a construction site. His arm hit the vertical I-beam and severed below the elbow. The worker was airlifted to the hospital where doctors were able to reattach the arm.

The arm has regained blood flow and officials say that this a good sign that the surgery was successful. The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration will be investigating the accident.

Workplace injuries can be traumatic for all involved. Our thoughts are with the BWM worker and his family.

18-wheeler vs. minivan accident kills one man

A 58-year-old man was killed after a minivan and truck accident in Bibb County.

An investigation into the accident is still underway, but officials say that the man was driving in the rain when his van went underneath the tractor-trailer. The 43-year-old driver of the 18-wheeler was driving slowly trying to find a business through the inclement weather conditions. The minivan followed him up the hill and didn't slow down once he topped the hill. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured, but the 58-year-old man was pronounced dead on the scene.

Car and truck accidents are dangerous and traumatizing for all involved. Our thoughts are with the family of the victim.

 

Psychiatrist suspended after death of patient

State regulators in Florida have suspended a psychiatrist's lisence due to medical malpractice after the death of an austistic patient.

The doctor had hundreds of poor and disabled patients, including a 12-year-old boy who had austism. Florida Surgeon General issued an emergency suspension of the doctor's license after a medical examiner ruled the patient's death as a drug overdose. The length of the suspension is unknown and the doctor has yet to file a reponse on suspension.

Patients deserve the best possible care from doctors, our thoughts go out to the family of the victim.

Update on Tylenol recall 2010

The Food and Drug Administration along with McNeil Consumer Healthcare have voluntarily recalled children's liquid products.

These products which includes, Tylenol, Motrin, Benadryl and Zyrtec,have been recalled due to to subpar manufacturing. The FDA advises that any remaining prodcuts be discarded and that consumers discontinue the use of these products. The FDA has reported that the recalled products may contain a higher concentration of some active ingredients than what is specified on the bottle.

An FDA press release stated that the potential for serious health risks after taking the recalled products are remote, but that Americans should only take medicine that is the highest quality.
