Bond Insurers Looking for More Collateral for Employers who Self-Insure Workers' Comp

by Administrator 30. January 2009 07:03

Across America,  many employers who self-insure workers' compensation are being asked by the bond insurers to provide more collateral.  This is causing employers to put up more assets to provide workers' compensation to their employees.

The main factor for this sudden need for an increase in collateral has to do with the economy.  Because of the uncertainty and instability of the current economy, bond insurers are trying to limit their risk.  Because some industries are particularly volatile,  they may be asked for more collateral than other industries.

Short and Long Term Disability

by Administrator 29. January 2009 07:00

When trying to determine disability pay, the general rule is if an injury prevents an employee from working for more than seven days, he or she is entitled to short term disability. For anything over a year, it is long term disability.

Unfortunately, it is not always as easy as determining what kind of benefits you should recieve. Some employers may try to keep any benefits from you at any cost. This is where having a lawyer can be a great help to you.

Florida is facing several increases over the next few years. While this is only in Florida for now, it is possible for other states to face the same rate increases.

Workers' Comp Fraud

by Administrator 23. January 2009 04:49

A New York man was arrested and charged with workers' compensation fraud. The man had claimed that he had a job related back injury that prevented him from working. He went on to accept $7,150 in benefits.

While submitting signed documentation that stated that he was unable to work, the man worked as a porter and maintenance attendant. He was arrested shortly after investigators found out.

Fraud cases like this make it more difficult for people to get workers' compensation benefits. If you or someone you know is trying to obtain benefits, contact the Charleston workers' compensation laywers of The Steinberg Law Firm at 843-720-2800.

Gov. Sanfords Holds off on Push for Information

by Administrator 20. January 2009 03:06

Since 2007, Gov. Sanford has been trying to gain access to information regarding commission awards and attorney fees for workers' compensation cases.

This came about when he tried to impose new standards for workers' compensation. Unfortunately, had these standards been implemented, it could have meant that deserving people would not qualify for workers' compensation. This is an ongoing battle of Sanford's, and while it is currently on hold, it will likely be coming up again soon.

Workers' compensation can sometimes be the only source of income for a family. If you are attempting to gain benefits, contact the Charleston workers' compensation lawyers of The Steinberg Law Firm at 843-720-2800.

Repetitive Motion Injury Compensation

by Administrator 20. January 2009 03:05

In many jobs, there are motions that must be used often. Unfortunately, some of these motions can lead to injuries like bursitis, tendonitis and carpal tunnel syndrome. When this occurs, your employer has an obligation to compensate you for the wages you lose from not being able to work.

However, some employers will try to avoid this if they can. Workers' compensation for repetitive motion injury is a very important thing to recieve. If you or someone you know has been injured and is trying to get compensation, contact the Charleston workers' compensation lawyers of The Steinberg Law Firm at 843-720-2800.
